For a brand that didn’t have any SUV’s in its arsenal before 2007, Audi has come leaps and bounds. The Q5 is it’s newest addition and two weeks ago we took a trip to Hastings for the U.K launch of the vehicle.

We’ve test driven a number of Audi’s, the A4 and most recently the A5 and have come to expect a smooth and compact drive. The Q5 does not disappoint. From Hastings Pier to the local country lanes, the SUV handled the way you’d expect a solid German car to do – enhanced by optional air suspension, the notably low cabin noise and heat insulated windows.

Like all new Audi’s, connectivity remains the stand out feature. Apple Carplay and Android friendly functionality allows your phone to sync easily with the car and most features to be controlled by the on-board display. Meanwhile the virtual cockpit displaying maps and other key alerts, remains an optional (definitely recommended!) extra.

Family cars tend to sound rather boring, however the leather interior and refined Audi exterior finish mean that the Q5 represents a more luxury 4×4 when compared to the recently reviewed Jeep Renegade. Of course this is explained by a £20k price difference – the Q5 is expected to retail from £37k upwards.

The Q5 became available for dealer launch from end of March and U.K deliveries began arriving this month. Visit Audi for specifications and more information on Q5.
