Last month, we were invited to the Vineyard Hotel in Newbury to test drive the soon to be released Audi A4. As you’d expect from an Audi, the exterior is sleek and attractive with well rounded curves. Like the previous other versions that have preceded it, the new A4 remains the motoring equivalent of “smart-casual”, not looking out of place at any occasion. The A4 is indeed a car that will be used as much for the daily work commute as it will be for the weekend drives down country lanes. Audi understand this and have worked to develop an interactive in – car system to help drivers feel comfortable and in touch, wherever they may be. Impressive inclusions include a wireless charging facility for android phones and a 7 inch display that allows all Apple approved apps from an iPhone to function on the screen as it would on the handset itself. Notably, this allows use of the phone book, Spotify, and even Google maps should that be preferred to the inbuilt Sat Nav. The stand out addition for us though is the Head Up Display (HUD), which projects the speedometer, Sat Nav and other key vehicle information onto the windscreen, making for seamless, distraction free driving. Additionally a three zone climate control function allows for the driver and passengers to choose separate air con and heating settings with the ability to opt for Bang and Olufsen speakers as an add on, making the new A4 very much a car to be lived in. And the drive? We took both the six speed manual SE (basic model) and automatic S line (top spec model) for spins from Newbury through to the Cotswolds. Both provided for enjoyable rides with both engines surprisingly quiet even at high speeds. At a push we’d say that the S line was our pick, an incredibly smooth drive provided by the sport suspension and not forgetting the top of the range add ons included. On sale from late November, the New A4 certainly gets the Street Gentry thumbs up. Suited to those who will spend hours in their car during the week the A4 will ferry the driver and passengers in stylish comfort. For detailed, specifications and more information visit Audi.
