The bustling streets of London’s Mayfair are the last place you’d expect to find a country pub; visit The Only Running Footman, however, and this is exactly what you’ll find – great drink, great atmosphere and best of all great food.

Last month Street Gentry took a trip to the Footman. We found a heaving pub downstairs complemented by a quaint and comfy restaurant above, a world apart from the noise and bustle below.

With a variety of British food on the menu, the grilled lamb cutlets served with aubergine, courgette, swede & broad beans cassoulet and mint jus, was the stand out dish – succulent and tasty, topped off with a delicious lemon posset with blueberries and lavender shortbread. In addition to the great food on offer is an extensive wine range, blending new world whites and reds with wines from traditional regions such as France and Germany.

It’s difficult to categorise the Only Running Footman. It’s refined interior and quality of the restaurant make it a little more than our average gastro – pub. One thing is for certain though, if you’re looking for a pub with a country feel in the city, the Only Running Footman is the place to visit – friendly, affordable with an atmosphere that you’ll have to go far to match.
