Being President of United States entitles the holder to many things but great style is not a given. JFK, with his effortless look was the obvious exception and finally in the 44th President, Barack Obama, he has a worthy heir. Next to his often glamorous wife and First Lady, Michelle, attention on Obama’s subtle and refined style is often overlooked. So, with his tenure in the White House nearing its end we think its apt time to turn the spotlight on the Commander in Chief and appreciate the style he has brought to the role. His suits fit well Let’s face it, male President’s and Prime Ministers tend to live in suits, often unnecessarily generous in the jacket and trouser region. Obama bucks the trend. His suits fit well, reflective of a man that understands that he wears the suit and not the other way round. Check the ever-present tie dimple; a touch of gentlemanly elegance. Plus, you have to respect a man with the courage to test the waters with a beige suit. He Knows how to do Black Tie When it comes to pulling of a solid look for black tie events, it’s always the subtleties that make the difference; classy tuxedo and an appropriate fit. Barack ticks all the boxes, with a little help from Michelle of course. And White Tie Donning casual clothes doesn’t faze him Let’s face it, when you live in a suit, deciding which casual clothes to wear can become an unexpected complexity. The President makes it look effortless, making a seamless transition into casual garments that he actually looks comfortable in. He knows what a good watch looks like While many leaders leave the specifics to their staff, Obama takes his look seriously, particularly when it comes to his timepieces. Detroit watchmaker Shinola is one of his go-to watchmakers, gifting David Cameron a custom made watch on his trip to the U.K earlier in 2016. His favourite however, is the Jorg Gray JG6500, below. Given to him as a birthday gift from his secret service detail who were looking for a rugged but stylish watch. The President has worn this since 2007. He keeps stylish company By this we mean none other than his Aviator wielding right hand man, Joe Biden. As Vice President it’s easy to be left in the shade, but Biden stands apart as the only statesman that can make the famous Ray-Bans an accepted part of political uniform. And of course, we can’t not mention the ever elegant First Lady Michelle. Find more of our Style Icon’s here. One Response Kabukie 22 October, 2016 Well said. Thanks.
